Target description:
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a cytokine that functions as both a pro-inflammatory
and anti-inflammatory agent. It regulates the body’s immune response,
hematopoiesis, and the acute-phase reaction, stimulating the liver to
produce proteins such as C-reactive protein (CRP) during infection or injury.
In drug development, IL-6 is a major therapeutic target for controlling chronic
inflammation. IL-6-targeting drugs are used to treat autoimmune diseases
like rheumatoid arthritis and to suppress dangerous cytokine storms in
severe infections.
